MANY ROADS TO FREEDOM:
ABOLITIONIST AND CIVIL WAR SITES IN ROCHESTER

20. NEW YORK CENTRAL RAILROAD STATION

This view of the New York Central Railroad station originally appeared in Ballou's Pictorial of 1855. This station was built in 1852 at Mill Street on the site of the old Auburn Railroad shed. In 1861, President-elect Abraham Lincoln addressed the citizens of Rochester from this location. It was also the place from which a somber crowd observed President Lincoln's funeral train in 1865.
