Winners of 2nd Annual Kiwanis / Seymour Library
Design-a-Bookmark Contest

2009 Bookmark Contest Winners

On Friday, March 20 at 2 pm, the Kiwanis Club of Brockport and the Seymour Library announced the 3 grand prize winners of the 2nd annual “Read Around the World” Design-a-Bookmark Contest.

The winner in the Kindergarten & 1st grade category was Jacob Knapp (above photo, front, center); in the 2nd & 3rd grade category, Grace Crowe (front, left); and in the 4th & 5th grade category, Sophia Allen (back, center). Each received a $25 gift certificate to the Lift Bridge Book Shop, courtesy of the Friends of the Seymour Library, and a printed supply of their winning bookmark.

Honorable mentions were made to Catherine Davignon (above photo, front, right) in the K & 1st grade category), Emily Benson (back, right) in the 2nd & 3rd grade category) and Jacob Bonisteel (back, left) in the 4th & 5th grade category.

2009 Bookmark Contest Judges

Judges for the contest were: (front row, l-r) Barclay School Librarian Suzanne Shearman, Friends of the Seymour Library President Charlotte Wright, and Ginther School Librarian Ellen Zinni; (back row, l-r) Town of Clarkson Supervisor Paul Kimball, Town of Sweden Councilwoman Danielle Windus-Cook, Brockport Kiwanis Club President Becky Gillette, Seymour Library Board President Jeff Davignon and Hill School Librarian Cathy Mangan (missing from photo - Seymour Children’s Librarian Kathleen Phillips).

Ice Cream Social

The contest celebration, attended by 150 children and their families, included an ice cream social (photo above) and featured guest Kiwanis readers Becky Gillette, Ruthann Tryka, and Elaine Bader. Each of the approximately 100 children who submitted an eligible entry received a hardcover book at the contest celebration, courtesy of the Kiwanis Club of Brockport. Children in grades K and 1 received Dodsworth in Paris by Tim Egan, grades 2 and 3 received The Willoughbys by Lois Lowry and grades 4 and 5 received The Porcupine Year by Louise Erdrich.
