Library Knit Chicks, our monthly needle-crafting circle, will meet on Saturday, October 31st and Saturday, November 28th at 10:30 am (the last Saturday of each month.) We have a “close-knit” community of fiber artists, and new members are always welcome! Show off you new work to inspire others, or come to get some new ideas. We’ll provide coffee, tea, cookies and conversation.

CPR for Adults and Teens will be provided on Thursday, November 12th from 6-8:00pm. E.P.I.C. Trainings will teach you how to provide single-rescuer CPR, how to respond to a choking victim, perform rescue breathing, and recognize and prevent heart attacks and strokes. A certification card is issued upon successful completion of the course. The fee for this class is $40.00, payable to E.P.I.C.  Space is limited and registration is required. Even if you can’t imagine giving CPR to a stranger, think about your loved ones who may someday need your lifesaving skills.

Friends of the Rush Library will meet on Monday, November 16th, at 6:30pm, to discuss the Wine-Tasting Benefit, book sales, plus other prospective events and projects. No experience is necessary, and new members are always welcome!

AARP Driver Safety Program, a 2-part class, will be held on Tuesday, November 17th and on Thursday, November 19th from 1:00-5:00pm.  This class teaches defensive driving techniques and information on age-related cognitive and physical changes that affect drivers, and how to adjust driving responses to those changes. People of any age may register for these classes, but you must attend both classes. (Check with your insurance agent to see if you’ll qualify for a discount on your car insurance after the class.) The cost for this program is $12.00 for AARP members and $15.00 for non-members. Members must bring their card to qualify for the discount. Please bring a check payable to AARP at the first session and a valid NYS driver’s license. Space is limited and registration is required. AARP requires a minimum of 15 participants to hold this class, so sign up with a friend!

A Taste of the Holidays! Bring your favorite cookie recipe and a sample for others to try at our first Cookie Party on Saturday, November 21st from Noon-2:00pm. It’s different than a cookie exchange- people will only be sampling one of your cookies and not exchanging- so you only need to make about 2-3 dozen and bring in at least 20 copies of your recipe. Please register in advance if you would like to be a part of this event. Coffee and tea will be served

Rush Readers’ Book Club will meet on Thursday December 3rd, from 7-9:00pm. We will be discussing Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.  Described by the Denver Post as “…lively with historical detail and unexpected turns, it is a rich surprise springing from a fascinating footnote to history….” Copies of the book will be available at the circulation desk. Coffee and dessert will be served, so please register in advance for a seat.
