8. SOLDIERS AND SAILORS MONUMENT

A view of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, often called the Lincoln Monument, in Washington Square. Established in 1817, Washington Square was the city's first village green, and was named to honor George Washington. The monument, dedicated in 1892 by President Benjamin Harrison, was created as a memorial to Civil War veterans. The view faces northeast, with the Xerox Tower in the right background.
