Letter to the Irondequoit Post
November 6, 2003

We write this to clear up some misconceptions that have surfaced about the two neighborhood libraries in our town.

To begin, there are no plans to consolidate our two branch libraries. Furthermore, there has been no mandate from the supervisor or Town Board to relocate our libraries.

It should be noted that while the Town Board approves our annual budget, they do not dictate or control the everyday activities or long-range plans of the library.

Currently, we have facility issues at both branches that range from roof problems to overcrowded space. When you visit our libraries, one cannot help but see the need to "do something" to revive our libraries.

What we do will result from careful evaluations by professional assistance and from the needs of our town residents.

We are a board that accepts the responsibilities of serving as trustees of the libraries and will study all aspects of providing a first-rate library within a safe environment that serves all residents of our town.

We welcome residents' input. As we go forward in looking at the many suggestions htat have surfaced over the past few months, we will keep you informed.

Please feel free to attend out monthly meetings the third Wednesday of each month and participate in our open forum discussions.
