         Adult Programs                    

  Book Discussion for the month of August has been cancelled.  Please join us on September 2 for our next Book Discussion.  The book to be discussed is When the Emperor was Divine by Julie Otsuka.  Book Discussion is sponsored by the Friends of the Chili Public Library.  This program is free and open to the public.  No registration necessary. 
 
  Scrabble Club for all ages will meet Thursday, August 7 from 3:30-5 pm.  There is no registration for this program.



 




Catch the Reading Bug!  2008 Summer Reading Program for Adults!  July 7- August 15. 

For every book read during the Summer Reading Program, fill out and submit one coupon (available at the library) for weekly drawings on Fridays.  The first drawing will be on Friday, July 11.  Grand prize drawing will be on Friday, August 15.  The Summer Reading Program is sponsored by the Friends of the Chili Public Library.
 

  Buggy Monday Matinees!  Come watch a "buggy" movie at 1:30pm on Monday, July 21, August 4 and 18.  Movie titles and ratings to be announced.  Popcorn and beverages will be provided.  No registration required.
 


 

 Passport Services for the Community.  The Town of Chili and the Chili Public Library together with the Office of the Monroe County Clerk are pleased to offer this program on Tuesday, July 8 from 5:30pm-8:30pm.  A range of passport services, including photos, will be available.  Registration is required and begins on June 17.  For complete information on what is needed to apply click here.  To visit the US Department of State's Travel website for passport forms click here.
 
  Wild Rides!  Come join Paul Ruben, North American editor of Park World magazine for a 40 minute slide show about roller coasters on Tuesday, July 15 at 7 pm.  Kids are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. No registration necessary.


 
  Tour Southern Italy with Tom DeClaire.  This travelogue will be presented on Tuesday, July 29 at 7 pm.  Travel to Palermo, capital of Sicily, the Amalfi coast, Naples, Sorrento, Mt. Vesuvius, Capri and more.  No registration is required.


 
  One Stroke Painting with Linda Maloney will be held on Wednesday, August 13 from 6:30-8:30 pm.  Come paint butterflies and dragonflies on note cards.  Wear old clothes!  Registration is required and begins on July 23.  No prior painting or art experience is necessary.
 

 

  Discovery of the Schooner Orcadian and the Last Flight of the Sea Bee!  Come on Wednesday, August 27 at 7 pm and enjoy shipwreck enthusiasts, Jim Kennard and Dan Scoville.  They will talk about their exciting discovery of the mid-1800's schooner near Sodus and their finding on a 50 year old Republic RC-3 Sea Bee in Lac Simon, Quebec.  No registration necessary.   Ages 14 and up are welcome.
 


  Free Computer Classes!  Introductory Internet and E-Mailing classes will be held on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.  Classes will start at 9:15 am and run about one hour.  Register at the Information Desk or call the library.

 

Children's Programs   

 

Kids Chess Club will meet Thursday, July 10, July 24, August 14, and August 28 from 3:30-5 pm.  Kids up to the age of 18 are welcome (children under age 12 must have a parent in the library.)  There is no registration.
 

  Family Movie Night!  On Thursday, July 24, and August 21 at 6:30 pm, come and enjoy a family movie!  Popcorn will be provided.  No registration required.  For information on the movie title call 889-2200 x321.

 

  Scrabble Club for all ages will meet Thursday, August 7 from 3:30-5 pm.  There is no registration for this program.

Crickets - ages 2-5: for every 15 minutes read, please submit a coupon for a weekly prize drawing.

Fireflies - ages 6-12: for every 30 minutes read, please submit a coupon for weekly prize drawings.
 

  Preschool Craft - Tissue Paper Butterflies will be held on Tuesday, July 8 at 10am and again at 11am.  For ages 2-5.  Registration begins June 30.

 

 

  Make a Suncatcher Garden Stake will be held on Thursday, July 10 at 6pm and again at 7pm.  For ages 4-12.  Registration begins on June 30.  There will be painting so please dress accordingly.


 
  Sand Art will be held on Tuesday, July 15 at 1pm and again at 2pm.  This is for ages 4-12.  Registration begins on July 7.



 

  Make a Buggy Doorhanger will be held on Thursday, July 17 at 6pm and again at 7pm.  For ages 4-12.  Registration begins July 7.



 
  Tie Dye will be held on Tuesday, July 22 at 10am.  All ages are welcome and there is no registration.  Please bring one item to tie dye and dress accordingly.


 
  Make a Windsock will be held on Tuesday, July 22 at 1pm and again at 2pm.  For ages 5-12.  Registration begins July 14.


 
  Spoon Man will be here on Friday, July 25 at 10am.  All ages are welcome and there is no registration.




 
  Talent Show!  Come show your talent on Monday, July 28 at 2pmRegistration begins on July 21.  Please let us know what type of performance you will be doing.  Library can provide CD/cassette player.


 

  Preschool Craft - Bug Photo Frames will be held on Tuesday, July 29 at 10am and again at 11am.  Registration begins July 21.   Family Program - Make a Butterfly House!  This program for the entire family will be held on Thursday, July 31 at 6pm and again at 7pm.  Registration begins on July 21.  One butterfly house per family.
  Dave Ruch, a musician will be here on Tuesday, August 5 at 11am.  All ages are welcome and there is no registration.   Make a Corkboard will be held on Thursday, August 7 at 6pm and again at 7pm.  For ages 5-12.  Registration begins on July 28.
  Trucks, Diggers, Tractors, etc. will be here in the library parking lot on Tuesday, August 19 at 10am until 12pm.  All ages are welcome and no registration is necessary.   Butterfly Release with Seneca Park Zoo will be held on Thursday, August 21 at 11am.  All ages are welcome and no registration is necessary.



Kindergarten Storytime will be held on Thursday, August 28 at 7pm.
 Enjoy some stories about kindergarten and a craft!  This program is for those children starting kindergarten in September.  Registration begins August 18.
 

Storytimes

  Preschool Storytime for ages 4 and 5 will begin again in the fall.  Watch here for further details.

 
 Toddler Storytime, for 2 and 3 year olds will begin again in the fall.  Watch here for further details.


 

  Infant Storytime for babies and toddlers up to 24 months of age will be held on Tuesday July 15 and August 12 at 11am.  No registration necessary.


 

  Simply Stories, a drop-in storytime for children of all ages will be held on the following Thursdays at 10 am:  July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31, and August 7 at 10 am.  No registration required.  Program will be held outside, weather permitting!

 

Book Discussions

 Books 'N' Bites, a book discussion for grades 4-6 will be held on Thursday, July 10 from 4-5 pm.  We will be discussing On My Honor by Marion Dane Bauer.  Please call the library at 889-2200 ext. 321 to let us know if you will be coming.

 
  Books 'N' Nibbles, a book discussion for children in grades 1-3 will be held on Thursday, July 17 at 4-4:45 pm.  We will be discussing the book Planets in Our Solar System by Franklyn M. Branley.  Please call the library at 889-2200 x 321 to let us know if you will be coming.

Teen Programs



Teen Photo Contest! 

The winners from the Chili Teen Photo Contest have been determined by our panel of judges, but now it is your turn to judge!  Come to the library and vote for the photo of your choice from all the entries – at the end of June, the library will award a $10 Starbucks gift card to the “Viewer’s Choice” winner!

  Are you interested in becoming a Junior Friend of the Library?  This group is for grades 6 through 12.  You will volunteer your time and assist with various programs and needs throughout the library.  The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 29 at 6 pm. 
 

Teen Summer Reading!
This summer , read the books YOU choose from June 30 until August 8, and be eligible for prize drawings chosen by teens like you!  For six weeks there will be drawings for free pizzas, coffee gift cards, movie tickets, Barnes and Noble gift cards, Borders cards and an MP3 player!  Simply fill out a coupon for each book you read, and turn them in weekly for random prize drawings!  This program is for ages 13-18.
 

  Patriotic Flip Flop Craft!  Wednesday, July 2 at 1 pm,  Decorate your own red, white and blue flip flops.  Registration begins on June 9.  For ages 10-18.


 
  Teen Calligraphy!  Monday, July 14 at 1 pm.  Learn the basics of calligraphy!  Registration begins on June 30.  For ages 10-18.


 
  Glitter Tattoos!  Wednesday, July 23 at 1 pm, get a cool, glitter tattoo that lasts about one week.  For ages 10-18.  Registration begins on June 30.



 
Teen Scrapbooking!  Come on Thursday, July 31 at 1pm to make your own scrapbook page.  Registration begins on June 30.  For ages 10-18.



 
  Teen Make-up and Skin Care!  Wednesday, August 6 at 2 pm.  Learn to apply make-up and care for you skin.  Registration begins on July 7.  For ages 10-18.


 
  Babysitting Course will be offered on Wednesday, August 13 from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm.  Bring a lunch!  Fee to EPIC Training of $35 is required at registration.  Registration begins on July 21.  For ages 10-18.

 
  Locker Pocket Craft! On Friday, August 22 at 1 pm, bring your own old jeans and make an organizer pocket for your locket.  Registration begins August 4.  For ages 10-18. 



 
  More Teen Calligraphy!  Tuesday, August 19 at 6:30 pm.  Registration begins on July 28.  For ages 10-18.




 
  Home Alone Safety!  Wednesday, August 27 from 1-3 pm.  Fee of $20 payable at time of registration to EPIC Training.  Registration begins on July 28.  For ages 10-18.




 
  Play Games on our new Wii!  Wednesdays from 1:30-3:30pm on the following dates:  July 30, and August 20.  No registration necessary.

Back by Popular Demand!

Get ready for college with Kaplan courses.  All programs are free and registration is required.  Registration begins on July 21.
