Keep in mind that the internet is full of people who will offer to help you with the patent process. Not all of them are reputable. Be careful to check the credentials of the sites you visit, and be an informed consumer. Here are links to some websites that you might find helpful:

Inventure Place, National Inventors Hall of Fame - website of the museum in Akron, Ohio.

Intellectual Property Owners Association - serving owners of patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.

Invention Dimension - the Lemelson-MIT Awards Program. Read their Inventor's Handbook.

Inventor's Digest Magazine - lots of online help for inventors.

Minnesota Inventors Congress - not for Minnesotans only. Check out their Inventors Toolkit for tips and hints on the patent process, and handy checklists to help you get through it.

National Inventor Fraud Center - put up by a law firm in North Dakota. Lists of Red Flags and 10 Questions to Ask are provided. Their Bad Guys list links you to Federal Trade Commission lawsuits against allegedly fraudulent companies.

Patent Cafe - another online magazine with lots of useful information.

United Inventors Association - a nonprofit inventor support group serving the invention community since 1990.

Wacky Patent of the Month - just for fun!

World Intellectual Property Organization - an international organization dedicated to promoting the use and protection of works of the human spirit.
